Hi guys i have a 08 marin rocky ridge the bike is standard so the spec is,

XT shadow rear mech
deore front mech
deore shifters
fox vanilla R 140 forks
WTB laserdisc wheels on deore hubs.
hayes stroker hydrollic disc brakes

I am getting my wife a lower spec marin for our local shop so i am going to fit the wheels and brakes from mine onto hers so that leaves me £650 or roughly $800/$900 to spend on wheels and brakes for mine which are better that old ones to be fitted onto hers from mine. also what do u think of drive equipment. would i get inprovement going to all XT.

i am ater advice on brakes/ which one/models,
: formula?
: hope?

also what wheels, im looking at hope hoops any views on them or different one

cheers lads

I'd go for a set of Hope Pro II on Mavic XM719. A good, strong tight wheelset that is perfect for general trail riding.

The Deore stuff works well, albeit a little weighty... I would wait until they wear out then replace, then go for XT.

    Brakes:

Hope: great brakes but pricey - flawless stoppers
Formula: Great reviews, no direct experience of them though
    How about XT brakes?

Try Merlin cycles for great deals on all of the above

Will get the lot for under £650 (wheels/XT kit/brakes)

Will transform your ride no doubt - wheels and brakes first though
