Hello
I have finally decided to get an anthem following a head blowing debate over
Anthem x2
Lapierre Zesty 314
Trek Fuel EX8
The reason for the choice was the weight and speed, i prefer a fast bike with great uphill ability and ok downhill(a bit wet i agree)
Also the cost my budget was initially £1500 and i was stretching too much for the lapierre at £1800
My question now is do i get an Anthem x3 and upgrade later or is the x2 more cost effective and supperior bike
Regards

Add up the cost of the upgrades purchased seperately, and you`ll see the X2 is better value,in the end.2006 Giant XTC
2010 Giant Defy Advanced
2016 Boardman Pro 29er
2016 Pinnacle Lithium 4
2017 Canondale Supersix Evo0 -
As Spiderman said the higher models tend to be better value. The parts on bike builds you are getting for next to nothing compared to what you would pay for them individually. This is why you are far better to spend as much as you can afford to start with.0

I'm slightly puzzled by your options as they are all different types of bike. Anthem is XC Race, Fuel EX8 is XC Trail, Zesty is All mountain. You've picked a 100mm, 120mm and 140mm bike?? Why not choose like for like types and then you'll make a better decision.
If you really want an XC Race type then compare the Anthem X2 against the Trek Top Fuel Ex8 and Lapierre X-Control.
It wil work out cheaper in the long run to go for the highest spec off shelf bike than upgrading later, the OE manufacturers get the parts far cheaper than you or I ever will, even in sale prices.0 -

Without clarity on the type of bike i did confuse things..i started to think that i was missing out on downhill ability with longer travel
Thanks for the feedback0
