Who leaves work late to SCR?

My hours are 9am - 5pm but as the day's get brighter I find myself working to 6pm. This isn't because I have more work to do or an eagerness to excel further in my job (oh no they've got more than they deserve from me - for the money). I wait until 6pm because if I leave at 5pm when i hit the A3 (Clapham) it'll be too early for the other commuters. So I wait at work until 6 then set off for proper sclaping pedigree.

Who else does this?

I never see any worthy competition anyway, so not me!

  • Workload controls the SCR start time

Once the flag has been waved I want to get home as fast as I can! Isn't that the point of SCR

I don't think you can predict what time potential marks will get under way, leaving at a variety of times brings different possibilities. On the statistical viewpoint 6 is probably going to find more victims. But it also brings more flotsam.

Work controls the SCR time, but I bring work home so I don't have to stay in the office.

This is a tricky one. I usually work 9 - 5:30 so get a fairly good selection of SCR action once I hit the mean streets of London. I did find that when I was heading from Aldgate area to Morpeth once that the strip of riverside that I went along (including the awesome wind tunnel!) was completey devoid of any foe.

Having said that I'm on a 8:30-5 site today and I had a rather nice selection once I hit town (see the L-O-N-G post I made on SCR thread........) so I guess I'll have to see what this evening brings. I also think location has something to do with it - there are 5 or 6 places that I work at around London and due to the area each is in I can hit the main trunk/scalping roads at different times. Even a few minutes can make a difference like the morning I left about 5 minutes later then usual and found DDD along Clapham :-)

How long does it take to get up to speed then? Was Bass already home by the time the button of DOOM was pressed?

I don't leave work till 6.45 at the earliest so this doesn't apply to me! Very little SCRing, even on Kings Road, at that time.
  • I see a few people. But none can be classed as a true scalp as they are riding a close the speed of the labour government, I tend to refer to them as victims in this case.

However there a proper bloody rapid roadie the other night, I tried keeping up but with laptop and general computing gear on my bike I couldn't keep up, I therefore have to admit defeat and come to terms with being scalped.
The doctor said I needed to start drinking more whiskey. Also, I’m calling myself ‘the doctor’ now
  • Nope, I have the opposite problem i.e. leaving before 6 is a luxury for me.

In any case I don't think you should mope about the stinking office - try leaving Camberwell at 5pm up Walworth RD, Elephant and then on to the city. You should get there for about 5.35, perfect for the East > West Embankment SCR run all the way to Vauxhall then home...

Hang on a second, I wasn't that slow at freewheel. When we did the first wind tunnel test there was barely a distance between us.

Granted there was that incident when you and Snooks lost me but that had to do with those damn Red light people than my speed. On the journey home I was tired... I did a lot of riding that week.

My problem isn't speed, its distance

Your not meant to mention that bit!

Anyhow as we're on the subject of leaving work at a different time I'd just like to chime in and say I'm rather happy I left work earlier then usual today..........not because I found any decent SCR action but because of who I encountered coming out of the hosital (Kings?) in Camberwell...........as I approached I saw a rather attractive looking brunette coming out of the gates in casual wear on a nice lil' Giant road bike. Being a true gent I went sailing past as opposed to slowing to filter in front of me........DOH!

We both filter down the RHS of the cars to wait at the lights that head up Denmark Hill. I come round the front of the car and bear left to leave her room just incase shes heading up the hill. She then arrives and *almost* pulls off a trackstand  I think she saw my nodding approval and then she said:
I find it difficult to do without my cleats

OMFG! She's a proper cyclist!!! She kicks her pedals around after she's put a foot down as we pull off and shes running SPD-SL's! Lights went green and we start up the road - now at this point I'm in two minds as to what to do:

    1. Blast up the hill, leaving a thick strip of awesome behind me.
    2. Start off gently and see where she goes.......

I choose something between the two of these trying to keep a reasonable pace without standing up. As I get to the bus lane further up I do a quick shoulder check to see she's already turned off..........NNNNOOOOOO!!!

So in complete contrast to my ride in this morning, the return journey was rather pleasant :-)
