Routes In Mirfield
Hi there
Just wondered if anybody knows if you can cycle through Dewsbury golf club or a route round it.
The reason i am asking is a mate and i where behind some cyclist on Stearnard Lane in Mirfield. The cyclist ahead of us turned right up the hill on to Sands Lane but all i can tell from Google maps it is a dead end when you get to Dewsbury Golf Club.
I live in Huddersfield and was looking for routes and where to go i know of the Greenway route 66 and the Spenvally greenway and done both.
Cheers
James

Along Sands Lane there is a bridleway that skirts round the edge of the golf course and comes out near Whitley Reservoir.
If you go further along Sands Lane to Hagg Lane there is a bridleway that criss crosses the golf course (i think, havent managed to use that one yet) and comes out near the Reservoir as well.
There is also a 3 other bridleways from near Hagg lane, one goes up the other side of the golf course and comes out at the same place as the one that crosses the golf course.
The second goes up a steepish hill to back lane (its a good challenge to get up) which comes out nearly oppersite the Hare & Hounds pub
The third starts near New Hall Lane and comes out further along the same road, I have not been on this one so dont know what its like.
I think google earth shows the paths better than google maps, failing that an OS map is great for finding routes.0 -
The best route here is the KERR (Kirklees Eastern Rural Route) - you're on it when you go through the golf course.
It's my local ride. The loop itself is 14 miles, and ends up being 22 miles as I spur onto it from Highburton, 4 miles away. It's quite muddy in winter, and mostly offroad. In summer it's a blast!
The KERR has two loops, this is the northern one, and there is a southern loop which circles around Emley (where the mast is). The southern is a bit more tame, but still not bad - add them together and you've got a 30 mile epic :twisted:0 -
Thanks cowboysfan and daveaasmith for the help. Daveaasmith do you have a map for the Kerr route or where can i get hold of one.
