Hi there,

I wanted to fit new handlebars and stem to my Rockrider 8.1.

I have ordered these bars http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ... elID=19575

But I'm unsure about what stem to get, I'm a bit unsure about stack height and how do I make sure the stem will fit properly. Do I just measure the stem height of my current one?

I'm looking at these stems, would they fit and which one should I go for?

Cheers, never done this before so need a little advice.

You need a 31.8 mm bar clamp area on the stem.

Do you have any headsset spacers currently in use? If so any stem will be fine really, the height doesn't vary that much. You can remove/add stems to make up the difference. As long as the combo of stem and spacers clears the top of the fork steerer by 3-6mm you will be fine.

Thanks for your answer thats helped alot, I dont have any spacers in use at the moment.

So does that mean I can purchase any one of those stems and just get a couple of spacers in case I need to adjust the height.

Will any spacers do is it a standard fit?

    Thanks again

Well, maybe no, because if your new stem is higher it may exceed the overlap. Having existing spacers allows you to remove them to make up the difference.

Of course if your new stem is shallower you will need to add them.
