This week a new driver, that is to say a driver who has had his driving license for less than 12 months, was stopped by police and charged for being 5 times over the drink drive limit. This is the 8th time that this driver has been caught. He is already banned for 18 months for previous offences. This time the car was borrowed so police had no powers to sieze it. The man has in a short time amassed an incredible amount of driving offences. Firstly, 8 times drunk driving, failing to stop after an accident, driving without road tax and or insurance and yet what i cannot understand is, why do they not give this idiot a custodial sentence.Oh, by the way the driver is 24 years old. It can only happen here in the Netherlands. :x :x :x Ademort

If somebody was stupid enough to lend this idiot a car. Then they should have had it siezed, then had to watch as it was crushed into a nice square block, they then should have been charged for the disposal of the block.
It may be the only way to get through to these people.
Both should also have had a jail sentence.

No, it could happen in a lot of places....in my native Queensland the police have quite successfully run sting operations to pick up really stupid drivers. The drive to the courthouse, get a driving ban, then walk outside and hop into their cars and drive away! Most of the time they get away with it, sometimes they don't.

Frequently enough though they just do it again and again without penalty, frequently they can be banned from driving but then allowed to drive anyway "for work", and then go on to commit more offences as a result.

In the cases of lawyers they even argue that a conviction would harm their careers, so don't even get that! So much of the principle that "justice is blind".

You would think they should be made to pay the full penalty as a deterrent?
