Serial "friend" makers online

I get this a fair bit and its a little annoying. You sign up to youtube, soundclick, etc etc and you can link to other people of interest by becoming "friends". Personally I would rather have a links section but hey ho.
It seems to me though that there are people who are in it for the "friends" and to get as many as they can. I just got a friend request today from someone completely unlinked to my youtube page material, they dont even have the same interests (I'm not into computer games, lol). I went to their page and found that they have something like 7000 friends. I mean.. come on.. Why would I "add" you?
That and the camgirls. Jesus.... why would I add some girl who looks 13 and is potentially jiggling her bits into her webcam..? Why would I even want to watch your damn vids!? Is this entrapment?
There are some saddos online and I'm prolly the biggest
..sorry end rant.

I've given up trying to work out what other people's motivations are. I work with the general public so come across all sorts. As far as I can see, most folks lives are dominated by pointless drivel. I'm fairly certain that they'd say the same to me, but I cycle, so that makes my life considerably richer than theirs.
I'd imagine that your 'friend' is a shallow youth. Live and let live. Hopefully they'll grow out of it.A fanatic is one who can’t change his mind and won’t change the subject - Churchill0 -
Probably true tbh.
Does make you wonder why they cant have real friends, or is the the internet equivilent of "the commuter racing game" some on here play?0 -

At least the people mentioned by the OP are interacting in some sort of manner , albeit just with the occasional mouse click or keystroke. They are not just staring passively at a sequence of flashing lights that come at them from a box in the corner of the room.

Dudes, I'm honestly not judging, but you seem to be talking about the merits of real human interaction on a forum.0

You are so right DrunkMonk, we are so easy to judge so quickly nowadays. Every time a friend is made a seed of hope is planted, a future just got brighter and harmony will reign eventually.
Lets be best friend forever.
And ride bikes too.
