ok.. I saw this in the what full sus 09 thread , I thought WOW and then jumped up and down for half an hour in excitment. Then logic set in, and I sank. Like a stone. No, wait, more like a bloody boulder.
what is the deal with this bike? Is it even worth considering for XC/some trail use? The sticky mentions this is the only decent option for full sus in this price range so this would be my only option if going full sus... £360 is a lot of money to me atm so if it sucks please don't hold back I will appreciate any opinions anyone has of it.
Thanks, Matt

It's good for the money, but may not be any better than a hardtail for the same cash. Well specced, good fork, but that shock isn't too hot. be worth replacing it for a cheap air shock.
For XC I'd look at the Carrera Kraken.0 -
thanks for the reply.
seriously considering buying this, although it's a little more than I wanted to spend it ticks all the boxes for me.
Anyone have any idea of a decent cheap air shock I could buy to upgrade the one on there?
Thanks, Matt0 -
A RockShox BAR is the best budget air can. Look for one with a rebound adjuster ie the 2.1. You'll need to measure the old one up so you get the right size ie length and stroke.0

Matt in response to your PM:
i really really liked that bike. Enjoyed riding it and it felt just right. I highly rate it as a budget xc full sus- it would take on climbs as well technical stuff and decents quite well. The warranty is also good. Had no problems whatsoever with the rear shock.
Unfortunately, i had some problems with it (about 2/3 months in). The rear triangle pivot bushings got completely knackered and the rear triangle became loose. The suntour xcr fork was good while it worked but it started seizing and eventually was not moving at all.
all that sounds nasty but i did give the bike quite some abuse using it for everything including DH trails and some drops. for general xc use i believe it should be fine
It was at this point that i took it back to decathlon and the guys there were very friendly. since they didnt have the spare parts, they offered to give me a new replacement bike. Instead i asked them for a refund and they gladly refunded the money. (i then went and bought a banshee X which is more suitable for my riding style - but thats another story altogether)
if buying a xc bike with that budget, i would seriously consider a hardtail- one of the GTs or the Carrera Kraken0 -
Hi guys. I am glad to join this great bike forum. Allow me (a bike noob) to ask for some purchasing advice. I am looking for a full suspension all-purpose bike for ~400-800 Euro.
A little background:
Lots of motorbike driving (~10 years), started with small cross then went for road one. Last two years was only on 4 wheels or riding a bike (4 years ago bought for very cheap used Bulls Sport Disc 4.00 - value full suspension MTB). Gone are my driving license for 1 year so here I am looking for a bike upgrade.
Mostly I drive to the lake wich is ~15 km away through some parks, cobblestone pavement and regular roads. Occasionally I drive to the forest going for some larger hills and small jumps. Most of the time I drive with high tempo. That is - comfort is more important then rock climbing ability of the bike (if one have to go for a compromise). I think weight is another thing that is not as important for me (after motorbikes all bikes are feeling quite lite and also other then travel the purpose of the bike is doing fitness).
Last thing: I am 185 cm tall, measure 78 kg and my shoulders are 48 cm wide.
My options & questions for you:
Decathlon Rockrider 6.3 seems to fit what I am looking for and recommended here for this price range. I can buy it here (in Germany) for 399 Euro. There is however another option I found:
http://www.bulls.de/modelle/all-mountain/wild-beast.html (Bulls Wild Beast) - the 08 model is my for 379 Euro (http://www.lucky-bike.de/.cms/PSM/152-1-678?aid=psm). It's 43cm thought so it might be not my size(?). I am very new to bike equipment, so have pretty much no idea which one would be better. What do you think?
I did look for 2008 Rockrider 9.1 for ~700 Euro, but they only available in size L (which is recommended up to 180 cm).
Any other bikes I should try looking for good price deals?
Thanks for all the suggestions!
p.s. I also like using bar ends when going for a distance. If you can point to some I should look for the bike you suggest - it would be great.0 -
The Giant Yukon FX3 seems a good bargain reduced from £650 down to £310 - anyone have any experiences with it?
