I'm after a road bike with flat bars and discs not too heavy

Okay, I've looked at a Kona Dew Deluxe, but have heard that these hybrids are abit heavy duty. Is this the case?
I'm currently riding a 531 raleigh frame with a 105 groupset and lightish spec. I have new koolstop pads but still dont rate the braking next to my Freeride & hardtail mountain bikes. I tend to ride a road bike a bit like a mountain bike!
I use the bike for mostly commuting in Somerset 6 miles each way, but want to be able to use it for training rides and keeping up with some of the local roadies for weekend rides.
Are there any other alternatives or better bikes, all suggestions gratefully received.
I know I put this in the road section, but I'll use it more as a 'road bike' than a commuter.

Depends on your budget but Orbea did the Diem both in dropped and flat bar options, nice light carbon frame and 105 kit.Norfolk, who nicked all the hills?

The top 3 bikes in the Ridgeback Flight range fit the description and range from about £680 to just under £1200:

A much cheaper option would be this:

It's not actually a road bike (MTB geometry and 26" wheels) but it should be quite quick with its slicks and 7005 frame.

Does it have to be a flat bar?
If I had to buy a single bike for everyday use, and I could realistically commute to work, I'd probably choose either an Orbea Diem with drops or a cross bike.
Whenever I encounter a section of prolonged flat or on road/asphalt on my MTBs, I find myself looking for alternate hand holds and almost in a time trialling position. :oops:0 -
The reason I say flat bars is that I get tennis elbow that is agravated by drop bars. I have tried tri bars, but because of the road surface (it's Zomerzet) and the mixed traffic, that's not really practical. I've tried raising the bars, different bars, different stems, etc and my road bike still kills my elbows more than any moutain biking I do!!
The budget is around the same as the Kona Dew Deluxe £300-400, but might consider something higher as getting it through the bike to work scheme.
Thanks for the ideas so far. I'll check them out. Keep them coming.[/quote]0
