Garmin Edge GSC 10 unit - mis firing?

I have been using my edge 705 since January - Chrissie pres- and after using the quick start info have been recording my cadence since then.
After washing my bike - particularly bad and mucky country roads- third time this year with unit on, at beginning of March cadence info not registering.
After resetting within the GSC10 unit and the computer still no luck.
I know this isn't vital but having paid for it !!!!!!!!!
On resetting and hand cranking the pedals with the computer switched on neither speed nor cadence indicated, just noticed the speed bit.
Is there anything else I can do other than going back to supplier?

Does the little red or green light come on the gcs10 when the cranks or wheel is rotated after pressing the reset button?0

Check the distance between the sensor and the magnet. It only takes a single mm and it'll stop picking it up.0

I have 2 of these on different bikes.
They'll work fine for a few weeks then just stop for no apparent reason.
After a few days, they'll suddenly work again - for no apperent reason.
It's nothing to do with the set up, (distance between magnet and pick up) or batteries as either both or neither work. When I press 'scan' the dialogue box tells me the cadence sensor is detected, but it still doesn't work.
The Garmin distributor here can't suggest a fix. I emailed Garmin but didn't get a response. It's a shame as the rest of the device is pretty good.0 -

jpfy yes both lights show.
GavH just rechecked and adjusted gaps, although hadn't been aware that they had moved as unit tight on rear strut(?).
a_n_t did your units stop working immediately after cleaning or during a wet ride ? if I get it working again will I have to be ultra cautious when washing it or going through puddles etc. Doesn't this make it unfit for purpose ?
bianchi51 10 - 12 days now would this be within the limits you hint at ?
