i have just ridden over a pot hole & my rear wheel now has a lovely oval shape to it, obviously as the rim is a little on the spongey side

I am trying to find someone who supplies retro looking wheels (for single/track) that are strong ?

anyone any ideas, thx for your help in advance

Steve

When you say retro - what do you mean?- you could start at Campagnolo 'Sheriff Star' hub laced to a NOS Mavic SSC rim for £250+ or a Phil Wood Ltd Edition hub alone for $500! For the more budget conscious, a Formula / Ambrosio hub laced to a traditional box-section rim such as an Open Pro or Ambrosio Excellence would probably fit the bil for about £100. Knowing how deep your pockets are would probably help!
A call to Paul Hewitt in Leyland would proably be the best idea - he builds the wheels for Hubjub.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..
  • i have a decent road bike (Look 555 carbon frame, Mavic Ksyrium wheels, dura ace etc etc) and recently bought a single speed with a reclaimed "Enfield frame & cheap components for fun which looks like an old style like these http://singlespeed.angelfire.com/ .The wheels are obviously made of marshmellow !! So am hoping to find new wheels that look similar to older bikes although looks are likely to have to be compromised for strength.

Thanks for the tips re Ambrosio, i've found them available here

Those Angelfire bikes are expensive for reclaimed gas-pipe specials!

and some of the gear sizes look riotously big (ask LiT what happens to honking round on a big fixed gear size...)

whereabouts are you based? most decent bike shops will build you a rear - treat yourself to a good quality hub
