Move the map to your area and wait a little while for it to load the data.

  • OK, that is cool :-)

My own commute is relatively free of red dots, which is either reassuring or disconcerting, depending on whether you think that the lack of red-dots is due for (over)compensation any time soon or not...

    My routes pretty free

the blackspots are pretty much where I'd expect them though, and several are where there are flowers etc tied to lamp posts.

There are a couple of odd ones in my local area that seem a bit odd, it would be interesting to know what the criteria is for creating a blackspot ie how many serious accidents over the course of a year or so.

Ok just read the report attached to the map. Personally I wouldn't describe one reportable accident with injuries as a blackspot, it takes a history of similar incidents over a period of time to create a blackspot, or am I just being pedantic this morning?

It is however an interesting map, as I think I could have predicted where most of the incidents would have been on my route, and am surprised the aren't more to be honest

I am sure there are a huge number that go unreported and hence don't appear on the map. It is interesting to see where the accidents have occured and to see if they tie in with where you would expect them.

I also agree that one accident at a junction does not make that a blackspot, you have to see a pattern of incidents for it to become a blackspot.

It would appear that there were no cycle accidents in 2007 at all, in Northern Ireland.
Today is a good day to ride

Hmm, interesting that the Kings Road has many more than the Fulham Road, when I can take either.

Ooooh, how exciting. One of those red dots between New Cross and Lewisham on the A20 is, presumably, me!!

    My moment of fame.

maybe kings road has more cyclists? what this map also shows is how urban and central it is, clustered around central london etc,

I have somewhere between 30 and 40ish on my route, I think - but they overlap and I can't zoom close enough to see them all distinctly..! Pays to be careful, eh!

Doesn't surprise me. Even with the excellent amount of cycle/bus lanes, a lot of the students on their bikes in Oxford are surprisingly thick for "smart" people. ;)

Spotted Jez Paxo cycling past once on a bike in Oxford. In a full suit, bicycle clips, and a hint of a snarl (whether at us or at previous traffic I dunno)!

My route's pretty evenly coated in them! Nice.... one of them's me!
  • I'm on there too!

Edit: Bloody hell, I wouldn't want to cycle in London!

Yes, it is no surprise to me either, that Oxford is covered with dots. And I bet most of them also involve a bus or a taxi..! It would have been more interesting to have a more detailed set of coloured dots, with a colour key showing the severity of the cyclists injury, and the offending vehicle (bus, white van, taxi, crap 1995 hatchback boy racer with UV tubes under the skirt kit, etc etc)...

The one exactly on Magdalen Bridge Oxford, was me by the way! My moment of fame! I gridlocked the entire city due to it's dreadful one way system for 2 hours, so a paramedic later told me:) (inc inconviniencing the bus company that hit me, oh joy!)

    KK

PS: For the record, true there are many crap and stupid student riders around Oxford, but there are many good sensible riders too don't forget, with an equal chance of innocently being the next red dot on the map..!

I'm one of the ones on the headington roundabout... if the data goes back a few years.
  • Only the one spot on my route, right outside my front door by the looks of it

Push your bike down the road before you hop on.

    Better safe than sorry.

Crikey, lost count at over 30 (Streatham to City of London), though not all that suprised considering the standard of driving and cycling seen daily.

Worringly a Ghost Bike appeared a month or so ago at the junction of S.Circular/Streatham Hill. Can't find details, but another comrade taken.

1 on the way in, 3 on the way back, none where I would expect them to be. My main gripe is a traffic light on a long uphill junction, which if you go through just as it turns to amber (uphill) the lights go green the cross-way just as you are in no-mans land. Have reported the timing issue before, nothing done, think I'll try again, make a nuisance of myself...
