Deore LX Shifters

I have got a pair of Deore LX nine speed shifters, and the indicators are broken, is it possible to get blank plates to fit where the indicators were?

    Is it not the case that the blanking plates are inside the body of the shifter? I saw something in a recent mag about the XT shifters and how you could remove the indicators and put the blanking plates from inside the shifter body on to close the hole up.
