My ruffian lock ons are almost worn through to the bar and I have been looking at some simple lightweight foam grips for XC use.

Just wondered how they would stand up to all day XC rides, does anyone use these type of grips and would they feel any different to the ruffians in terms of comfort, reducing trail buzz etc.

Cheers all

I'd stick with lock ons.... Had those Ritchey grips on a commuter bike and they slip- ok, so you can hairspray 'em on- fine till it gets wet and then they slip again...
As for trail buzz, let a couple of PSI out of the tyre will have the same effect.

I use the neoprene WCS ones on my bike because they are so light compared to normal grips, they haven't slipped for me on my carbon WCS bars.
I've had them on for a couple of months now & they haven't started wearing out yet, infact they still look new. I do tend to wear through grips & gloves really quickly on one side but these have lasted longer than other normal rubber style grips I've used, oh & they are really comfy compared to the ODI Yetis which were my old grips of choice.
  • I've been using a pair of Ritchey WCS foam grips, the ergo one's. I actually bought 2 pairs, expecting them to die quickly, but the 1st pair is still very good.
Hair spray stops the twist, I've peeled the grips off on a couple of occasions and restuck them, no probs with tearing.
Although you can apparently get lock on versions of the Ritchey's foam grips now also - If you really want to add almost an extra quarter of a pound to your bike grips?!..
