Could you give up ...

... the internet?

The credit crunch is starting to bite big-time and I'm slowly sinking into a morass of arrears. It's therefore time to make some tough decisions.

I don't have an opulent lifestyle and am not very materialistic. Since redundancy a few years ago I've already pared away lot of frivolent excesses, so there's not much left.

I rarely use the telephone - the land line - so was considering getting rid of that. The problem is the line rental. The calls cost bu88er all, but I still need a line for the internet. As the line and the internet package make up most of the cost I'd have to get rid of the lot to make any saving at all.

Thinking about it, I'm surprised just how much the internet has become a part of my life. From posting / lurking on BR and other places, to keeping in touch with people around the world, it's become more important than I'd realised. I'm not sure that I could easily give it up.

I'm also aware of just how much time it takes up. So should I give it up and get on with normal things?

Could you?

If you already have Sky then you can get a 2mb line for free. A lot of Companies seem to be selling mobile broadband now. Which seems to be about £10 a month. Giving up the Internet now would be like giving up TV. Although, there is always the Internet at Work :P

It has been such a part of my life for so long now that Iwould find it difficult to do without.
However , if need musted ......
You could perhaps use the Internet service in the local library if you had to give it up at home.

When I was travelling for ages and ages, I didn't miss the internet so much. At home I only really use it because I'm bored, so I end up looking at bike parts or reading news.

Whenever I wanted to do my emails, I just went to an internet café. It was a welcome break from the hostel as well.

So to answer your question. It's not that hard to live without it, so long as you have other stuff to keep you busy, and an internet café nearby.

I use the internet so much now, I´d rather give up cable TV than it...

You can find most of the stuff on TV worth watching on the internet somewhere anyway (as long as you´re happy with poor qualoty and streaming iíssues')

Can you not contact your current internet company and tell them that you´re looking to switch to an alternative provider for reasons of cost, etc.? If they're any good, they´ll hopefully give you some sort of revised offer. Can't hurt to ask...

I have an internet business so it'd be hard.
Other than that, I tend to shop for parts online.

I could/can give it up.... TEMPORARILY when I go on holidays.:lol::lol:
