Cheap bike to leave at work

I'm looking at buying a cheap bike to leave at work and use in the local trails at lunch or in the afternoon.

I've got about £400 to spend, but have a few bits and peices to sell so could push to £500.

I've decided to get an '08 bike and have the choice of these 3 from Pauls

Kona Caldera
GT Avalanche 1
Diamondback apex

Anybody own any of these? I'm aware that the Kona and GT are good frames that will take some upgrading but have never looked at the Apex before.

    It will be very safe, d locked to my desk, in my locked office, in a locked and alarmed building, in a locked yard with CCTV.

    There's a '08 Rockhopper Pro for sale on this site for offers close to £500...better than your choices by a country mile!!

    The Kula looks a nice bike for £500.I have ridden other Konas and they have nice frames.Spec isn`t normally great,but at the reduced price of £500 compared to the newer 2009 bikes which have gone up by £100 or more it looks like good value,and all the kit is goodfor the money.Theres a review on here somewhere for the more exensive Kula and the cheaper Blast has been an MBR test winner so I`d imagine the Caldera would be good too
