Hi I am new to this forum and would like some advice.

I am looking to buy a hard tail bike for both me and my girlfriend. We are looking to spend up to £500 each.

I would like some recommendations of what to buy. I dont know what it is best, GT, specialised of marin etc etc.

Could you recommend a make and model for both of us please.

Thanks in advance.

    Hi mate,

There is a big sticky to have a look at:

Also try to use the search function, i think there are thousands of threads for the price range!

I just picked up a Genesis Core 10 myself from local bike shop, its absolutely delicious! Paid £500 (+£30 for XT shadow rear mech upgrade).

    Wecome to the forum.
I suppose it depends on what you want to do with your bike. Just for general use I would suspect that any of the bikes in the price ranger would be good. It all depends on how you feel on each. I had a Scott Reflex until the forks failed and I have now got a GT Aggressor which I bought from Halfords and the difference in performance is massive. :D

I use mine everyday, mostly off road but not real mountain bike stuff. Mainly to get fit.
Now the owner of a GT Aggressor XC 3

Does your girlfriend wants girls specific bike of men's?

For you, see this: GT Avalanche Expert 2008, but only in small size, 16". If you're not tall enough...

Thanks everyone. My girlfriend is after a womens specific but does not really matter as she is 5ft 8 so quite tall for a female.

I am looking at GT now, is it better to get hydraulic brakes or cable?

Hydraulic Brakes are a world better. Aim for those over mechanical (cable) brakes.

Has anyone had any dealings with Boardman bikes?

Right folks I have decided to get a Specialized Rock hopper pro! What are peoples opinions on these, my other half is getting a Specialzed Myka expert. We went to a specialized concept store in Birmingham and i was very impressed by the bikes.
