So how do you clean them?

I've just brough a cheap pair that didn't come with the wash bag and cleaning fluid.

Is it ok to put them through the washing machine? Hand wash only?

Comments

  • I just stick them in the washing machine on a 40 degree heat. Hasn't altered them in any way.

Washing machine at 30 degrees, non-bio powder and no fabric softener
Carlsberg don't make cycle clothing, but if they did it would probably still not be as good as Assos

I'm anal about all my Assos stuff now. If I do the washing machine, tops only, I wash one at a time on 30 degrees.

But, TBH, I wash it by hand if I can!

I don't buy expensive shorts, most of mine are from Decathlon at about a tenner a pop. I just sling them in the washing machine at 40C with everything else and they seem to be fine

Forgot to say - turn inside out, make sure all zips and velco fastenings on other bits of clothing are fastened. Velcro on a spin cycle will eat lycra

That explains the massive bobbling on one of my pairs of shorts then

Another cause of bobbling, I've discovered, is the velcro strap on packs that go under the seat. The velcro strap that fastens my Specialized pack to the seat post has caused lots of bobbling on 1 side of several pairs of shorts and tights, as I cycle my rear, inner thigh catches the velcro and wears the tights away

I hand wash mine with a silk and wool detergent then drip dry. Only trouble is that they are not always dry the next morning so I need to get another pair!

I wash mine inside out in the washing machine at 40 with Napisan and no fabric softener.

What difference does washing inside out make?

Bought some and surprised by wash instructions. Decided life is too short and just put in with anything else that needs a 30 degree wash. Not seen any problem yet (after 1 year of regular use). Do find the bottles of wash supplied are useful when touring though.

  • Normally just throw them in the shower after the ride and use the grape treading method.
Just make sure you take them out before using shampoo or having a shave. (OUCH)!

Tell me about it - I have started to put elastic bands around the seat pack to try and ensure this expensive chaffing stops!!

Why not cut the velco shorter so that it doesn't catch? I had a Specialized wedge that did this, just cut the strap so it didn't stick out.

I just bought a big wallet for my tools and strap it to the saddle rails using a re-usable cable tie.

    As for washing - 30 degrees C

Why do you lot not use fabric softner?

Fabric softener does something to lycra - can't remember what exactly but it's bad.
