compact or triple

at the moment i have a triple chainset on my trek pilot 1.0 and 8 speed cassette, if i change this to a compact will i have to change the front sti levers to a double one with just 2 clicks, also will i have to use a shorter front derailer cage, and change the rear derailer for a double

    No. Just lower the front mech and reset the limit screw. You may need to change the front mech for a double one. Try with the one you have first. It could work OK.
