Fulcrum R5 Wheelset

I have a 2007 Dawes Galaxy has proved to be highly capable over the past 2 years as a commuting workhorse, for weekend rides and for sportive events around the country. However, I feel the need to upgrade the bike to keep up with my rising cycling aspirations - this year I am signed up to do the Caledonian Etape and the London to Paris in July. In an ideal world, I would go out and buy a one of the Cannondale Synapse or Bianchi C2C 928 range (or even a Kiron) but I cannot afford to go down this route at present.
So the Schwalbe 32mm Marathons have been swapped out for the narrower, sportive friendly 25mm Vittoria Rubino Pros, and the Selle Italia XO Gel saddle (a source of constant arse ache) has gone, replaced by the Specialized BG Phenom143 (big improvement). Both these changes have made a significant difference.
The question is with a summer of big rides ahead, am I likely to derive further significant benefit from replacing my strong and robust (but heavy) WTB Dual Duty rims/Shimano Parallax wheelset with the pair of Fulcrum R5's that my local bike shop has on offer at £130? Or am I better keeping my £130 and putting it towards a new bike?
NB As a stocky 80kg rider, my wheelset may have to put up with a fair bit of abuse.
What do you think?

Are they Fulcrum R5's, or R5 Evolutions ?
The R5's are a couple of years old now, 24/27 round spokes.
The R5 Evo is the newer model, 21/24 bladed spokes
If these are R5, I think £130 is a bit steep...0
