Have just got a Colnago Extreme C...am now thinking about groupset.

Already have Record chainset but wondering if I should continue with Record or move to Centaur, especially with the Ultrashift levers. Refuse to go to 11sp on performance / maintenance grounds and also because I think 11sp is pointless

Er is this a joke question? Come on, you know Record is better in all respects.

No its not, I tried the Ultrashift levers yesterday, admittedly they were Super Record but felt really nice. Wondering with technology trickling down...

Still I have the Record chainset which I'll keep but suppose I could go for Record brakes and have (10sp) Centaur shifters and mech?

Was planning to ask similar question - I have just upgraded my brake calipers, was looking at Centaur but then found the pre-skeleton Record ones for only £20 more. In the end I went for Record - lighter, and even though they are 3 years old they were close to £200 when new so must be pretty decent quality. Was that the right decision?!
  • Sanded 2009 Centaur 10v levers (new much better shape) with 2008 Record everywhere else. The 09 lever shape is much much better for me. Whether it is for you will depend on your hands obviously.

Well imo as you have already said, it felt really nice cos it's SR.

I have 6 year old Record and I would never replace with new Centaur. Campag components last longer than some rivals ie Shimano, and for that reason if it feels good now why replace it?

Having said that, if you really like the US levers can't you mix and match?

SR feels identical to Record and Chorus. The internals are identical. Any difference is in your head! :-)

You can only mix 2009 10v Centaur levers with 10v older parts. 11v levers will not work correctly with 10v mechs as the cable pull is slightly different. Calipers are interchangeable obviously and 10v cranks run fine with 11v IME.

I'd agree about the new Ergo shape being an improvement, but I'm a bit disappointed that the brake QR button on Centaur levers isn't anodised and so with the winter weather we've been having, they're corroding and sticking. I'm going to check out the prices of spares because it's a PITA getting them to move.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

Also wrestling with that...pre-skeleton look better than skeleton whether its Record or Centaur

I'd go for 2009 Centaur. The lever feel and shape is the best I've felt yet for all 3 big makers.
Record may have that nice ring to its name but lets be realistic Centaur isn't bad stuff and I'd put money on it if people were blind folded (not riding) most people probably wouldn't tell the difference.
Most of the difference is in the weight of the components.

this is 08 record vs 09 centaur yes?? Defo the record - centaur is good and I do like the new hood shapes but record rides sooooo nicely

just a question here ... presumably you can mix 2009 Veloce 10spd US with any 2008 10spd campag RD?
