sounds like you have contaminated the pads. Even at 18st you should be able to skid.

but you could try larger rotors.say 185 front and back.

all you will need is one new adaptor and two discs.

started with just lite breaking, then breaking for a little longer, bi more pressure etc, like on a car really !

as long as you did not cook them..... then they should be fine. But i would hazard a guess that new pads and the rotors cleaned ( dishwasher or Meths or Isopropanol alcohol). and they will be right.

I have 160mm discs on one of my XC bikes but i am "only" 105kg  and for most of the rest 180(5) front and 160(5) rear.

is the rotor central between the 2 pads? i noticed my pads werent aligned recently (one pad miles away from rotor) when my braking power had dropped suddenly. realigned these and all is well.

Sounds like you have contaminated rotors/pads to me.

My Juicy 3s would happily throw an elephant over the bars, never mind simply lock up a back wheel.
You only need two tools: WD40 and Duck Tape.
If it doesn't move and should, use the WD40.
If it shouldn't move and does, use the tape.
  • I have the stock deore calipers on my 'hopper, admittedly with 203mm rotors but even when it was running 160s it would stop me ok. I'm 16st btw. For a bit of extra grunt once you sort the pads, I think a larger front rotor would give you more confidence.

I get pads from discobrakes. Very cheap, quick delivery. I use sintered pads which last for ages and work brilliantly in the wet grit/mud encountered in the dark peak.
