HI,

I have a Trek 6500 MTB bought in June. The bike came with Rockshox Tora 302 solo air forks.

The bike went back to the shop as the chrome started to come off and rust. Trek have replaced the forks with Rockshox Tora SL solo air forks. The bike shop said these are better forks as they are lighter.

Can anybody tell me the difference in these two forks? Noticed the 302 states it has greater travel 85mm to 130mm as opposed to the SL which states 100mm.

Is the SL actually a better fork? If not it might be going back.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

The travel is the same as well. "Tora" is the name of the range of forks, not all of them have travel adjustment, the ones on the 6500 were solo air 100mm ones. It looks like they've just swapped you last years for this years solo air, not a bad deal.

Make sure you get some lube of some sort on the stanchions after rides to keep the water off and keep them moving smoothly. I use proper stanchion lube stuff but I believe standard chain lube works just as well.

Some 302 were max of 100mm. So if you have a 2009 Tora SL, you will have a lighter fork.

    Internals are the same though.
