Why, why, why did I not stay at home and watch the Paris-Nice?
It seems like there are some days when everything is against you. I could honestly chuck-in this cycling business sometimes
Anyone share my angst, or all you all a bunch of real hard-asses?

The only thing worse than fighting your way up a steep hill into a strong headwind is fighting your way down a steep hill into a strong headwind.....

I once had ludicrously steep hill, into a headwind, in the rain! Rear wheel slipped all over the place. Horrible.
And the group I was with had dropped me completely.Note: the above post is an opinion and not fact. It might be a lie.0 -
Better training.0

I hope you're right. But even if it hasn't, It still helped me invent some new swear words for the next time it happens

Yeah, I suffered in the headwind today (live in South Wales, next to the coast...). Outward journey, against the wind, was dire. Right down the gears to get up the hills. It was the knowledge that I'd pick up the coast road with a tail wind that kept me going.
Still, it's all good training.0 -

Recently i've found I seemingly manage to defy the laws of nature by having a headwind both out and back!"A cyclist has nothing to lose but his chain"
PTP Runner Up 20150 -
Hills are hills usually - you know what to expect - by comparision, headwinds are truly awful - can turn a flat bit of 23-25 mph tarmac into a 15 mph struggle - ruins the whole ride, in some ways.0
-
I was barely moving in the headwind this morning. Never mind, I thought, I'll have an easy ride home tonight. Come hometime, there was barely a breeze.
Not fair :x0 -
Nothing is more demoralising than descending on the small ring and the large end of the cassette because the wind is so strong :x0

I used to hate the wind, but I now enjoy cycling so much that I don't care.Give me a headwind on a downhill. I love climbing too much it doesn't matter if it's windy.
Sorry chaps, but you all need to grow a pair0 -
I actually don't mind headwinds on a climb. I go up steep hills to suffer because the feeling of beating the hill, crawling over the summit and feeling the pain ease from my legs and my laboured breathing and pulse coming back down to normal, is awesome. Having the extra burden of the wind makes the "victory" of making it to the summit a bit sweeter.
In fact, writing this, I'm reliving last Autumn's epic effort, second by second, of Waddington Fell into a headwind. Pure pleasure0 -
...just like to add, I hate headwinds on the flat :evil:0
-
Wind, I call it horizontal hills. It certainly makes up for the lack of big climbs around here.
Sundays ride was murder, not because of the force of the wind but because it was gusting and trying to whip my front wheel out from under me. Still the 57 miles solo meant I had the toughest workout yet on the bike.Norfolk, who nicked all the hills?

So we are all in agreement. Does anybody know what the least windiest country in Europe is?
Maybe we can all charter a flight and ride in perfect weather for a week

PS: Why is it always calm on a day when you have to rest & recover? What's that all about?Giant TCR Advanced II - Reviewed on my homepage

I have just googled least windiest country in Europe and found out that we "have at least one third of the entire European Union wind resource". http://www.dongenergy.co.uk/Wind_energy/Wind_energy.htm
I dont call wind a resource  . Im at my desk eating lunch and out of the window I can see that its sunny and there is no wind. Why does the weather mock me so?
Edit; I havent yet found out which is the least windiest Country in Europe.0 -
South eastern France and the north west of Italy look to have low average wind speeds on this map.
I can't put my finger on it but I'm sure there will be some reason that cycling round there wouldn't be easy.0
