Potential Upgrades..

I'm starting to look into upgrading my GT XCR to make it a lighter and smoother ride.
Wheels.
I fancy some hope pro 2 hubs but what light/strong (i know, i know £££££) rims would people choose for a trail bike?
(btw, what rear cassette do you need with the hope as its alloy?)
Groupset.
Whats the SLX groupset like?
What I have on atm is a truvative firex set, am I going to see a noticeable difference? (it feels like a pestle and mortar atm
)
Also, I have an xt rear derailleur, but am still looking at the slx stuff. would there be any point in changing this? Its not been very well looked after
.
Brakes.
I WANT RID OF AVID JUICY 3's!!! lol. What lightweight brakes are good, but aren't gonna break the bank?
Carbon.
I've just got to

Just fitted the SLX crankset to my 'dale (see below), they work pretty well and are good'n'stiff (fnaar!!). And I reckon they look pretty cool too. Also fitted the Juicy 7's, not sure about the weight but they work nicely.Pictures are better than words because some words are big and hard to understand.

....oh, and you'll note the Ritchey WCS matching carbon bars and seatpost, they are by far the best upgrade I've made, amazed at the difference in the ride.Pictures are better than words because some words are big and hard to understand.

MM it does look good
think i'll ditch the 3rd cog and get the set with the bash tho, I never use my big ring!!
MM was looking at the juicy carbons... don't seem that expensive!
Want to upgrade the wheels asap tho. they aren't very health at all0 -
For rims, 719 for trail riding. Bombproof.
For brakes, formula or strokers.
Definitely no point in downgrading your rear mech.0 -
Xt cassette or Sram PG990 on hope hubs- stops the issue of wear on the ally free hub. I've not long fitted an SLX crankset to my Reign- very impressed. Doesn't seem to scuff as easily as the older hollowtech stuff either. As for rims, if I were building a set, I'd go for Mavic XM819's- UST rims, but can run tubes if you want.0

ooo, the 819 is a good idea, lighter than the 719 too.0

Kewl, cheers for the info about the cassette
Was looking at the 719's, they've always been mentioned on here0 -
