(i'm a track cyclist so dont no much about mountain bike gear)

saddle recommendations are a hard thing as everyone's arse is different.

saying that I get on well with the WTB rocket & Charge Spoon

  • I love my Charge Spoon. Really confortable, a definite "fit and forget" item.

The Spoon's good. It's also pretty cheap, and they resell for barely less than they cost so it's not a gamble- if you don't like it, it'll be easy to shift. I'm just about to get a Knife to try, they're stupidly cheap from Wiggle, but probably a bit less comfy. The Spoon doesn't look comfy at all but it's exactly the right shape for my bum, so it works perfectly- sometimes padded seats just collapse around you and actually make you more likely to chafe.

Having said that I seem to have a fairly tough bum, given the amount of chat on here about gel seats, padded shorts, chamois cream, special pants, anti monkey-butt powder, haemarroid cushions etc.

  • Northwind, let us know how you get on with the knife - I'm tempted to get one for my....ahem.....road bike to replace the standard boardman saddle. I would go for another spoon, but think it might look a bit unwieldy and large for a road bike.

Spoon is good for me too - and fine for my winter bike. When it comes to saddles - comfort is paramount. You cant see the saddle anyway when you are riding.

Will do, hopefully I'll have it and get it fitted before my wednesday ride.
