Hypothetical question, but if it is considered so important (by some) prior to fitting cups, then why isn't it done at the factory? Surely, It would be an added selling point for the frame manufacturer if it was absolutely necessary? (Same thing goes for head-tubes/sets, I guess.)

    I think some frames are - One I bought in the summer came with bb chased and faced and seat tube and head tube perfect too

    some say BB facing is important, others aren't too bothered. Personally, I've fitted HT2 cups to frames with and without facing and the differences have been pretty much non existent in terms of bearing life. I think the preloading of the cups is more important.

    I think headtube facing is more important.

    As for frames manufacturers not doing it - I suspect it won't sell them more frames, simple as that.
