Hi,
New to the forum having decided its time to get off my behind and enjoy the local countryside.
After quite a bit of research i narrowed my bike choice down to a GT Avalanche 1.0 - either an 08 or 09 depending on what deals could be got and the Cannondale F6 - again the 08 or 09.
Went and tested them both today and very little in them. The cannondale looks the biz but components are not quite as high spec. GT not the best looking bike.
Whilst visiting another local bike store I spotted the GT aggressor XCR 09 and whilst a bit more money (£700) i took a shine to it. Really like the white/black look and is good spec from what I can see.
Has anyone had any experience with this bike and is it any good? It is worth the extra £200 over the other 2?

In a word yes. Has superior parts throughout, but is not light, is designed to be a hard hitting hardtail. There are lighter alternatives.
Depends on what you want, the GT is built to last.0 -
Aye, the GT def isn't light, however it will take some abuse.
I've got the '08 XCR and love it. Used it in Grizedale, Whinlatter and Glentress and it was perfect0 -
Cheers for the help guys.
When you say heavy, do you know how heavy?0 -
erm..... not really sorry its lighter than a kona stinky tho (all I can really compare it to)
personally, i'm pretty big and have quite powerful legs (if my knees aren't giving me pain that is) and I can shift the bike pretty quickly.
I think you should decide what type of riding you want to do. The XCR is more of a hard hitting HT that can take some abuse (I even took it on the freeride park in Glentress) and I wouldn't expect a lighter more xc style bike to take much of what I put it thru.
Just gotta remember - Light, Strong, Cheap.... Choose 2.0 -
BTW, I'm guessing you saw it in Halfords? go in and try it out...pick it up test the size and weight etc. See if it fits!!0

Hi mate,
looking at the same bike, GT Aggressor XCR 09. Did you buy it and what do you think??
Did you get any discount off the bike?? Halfords are not willing to knock a penny off it!!
Cheers0 -
Didn't buy it in the end.
Nice bike but a bit too heavy and did not like the fact Halford hands would be assembling it. Had decided on the cannondale F4Z until I tested the Cube Ltd Race at the weekend.
Blows the GT and the Cannondale out the water. Better spec and just felt right for me. Picking it up Friday0
