Hi guys, this is my 1st post on this forum so I hope I get some good feedback!
I'm trying to decide on which Hybrid road bike to buy for around £450. I need something that is fast but quite comfy, can do hills, can be used in the city and can manage short-medium road trips. I won't be using it off-road or on very bumpy tracks. The reason I have not listed any true road bikes is that I dont want drops or too harsh a ride.
I have looked at various bikes but the best seem to be the Giant FCR 1 (2008) at £464, the Trek 7.5 FX (2008) at £444 and the Specialized Sirrus Elite (2008) at £450.
I gather that the Spec. Sirrus is quite keen and can be a harsh ride on certain conditions. I also hear that the default tyres are prone to puncturing often, although it is a very popular and fast bike. Apparently the Trek FX is similar but sometimes even less comfortable. The Giant may be a fraction slower but from what I can gather, the components are slightly higher-spec. Is this all true?
Please vote in the poll and if you want to suggest other equally good bikes, that would be excellent.Thankyou so much for your time and I look forward to your votes and feedback.

Pick the one you like the look of most and buy that one . :P
I've got a Trek 7.3 that I'm happy with it , the Giant FCR 1 looks good value considering the 2009 version is £200 more and does seem more 'road' orientated.
They are all decent bikes, speed wont be an issue, that will be dependant on your fitness level.
Buy local and haggle a deal but it's important you like the look and feel of the bike so ask for a test ride first.0 -
Yeh, i'd go with the Giant otherwise you might end up always wandering whar a 'proper' road bike is likewinter beast: http://i497.photobucket.com/albums/rr34 ... uff016.jpg

Hey guys, what would you say are the pros and cons of the Giant FCR? I am leaning towards it at the moment due to it's higher-spec components and good value, however I'm not sure what the main noticeable differences are between it and the others. Ie. Handling, speed, comfort, maintenance, factory default tyres etc. If you can help me decide, please do reply!
Thanks! Daniel0 -
I nearly bought a giant FCR I think it was the 2 (red anyway) it's the same frame as the defy and almost the same components so i assume it'll be the best on the road. The position was comfy because the frame wasn't stretched to accomodate the flat bar like some hybrids. I doubt it'd be any smoother that a normal road bike, but I haven't had much trouble on the mean streets of brum.
If you fancy it you can always put some drops on it when you decide you should have bought a proper roadie anywaySaracen Tenet 3 - 2015 - Dead - Replaced with a Hack Frame

I have the Sepsh Sirrus Elite.
Something in the region of 1800 miles and only one of those punctures we all fear as it has the Armadillo tyres. Keep them pumped up to 110/120 and you'll be fine.FCN 100 -
I dislike Giant on principle.
I agree with AndyManc - buy the one that looks best to you (or better that you like the most after riding them all).
They are all quality bikes and will undoubtedly do what you need them to do - but best don't choose on paper alone.David
