Best places to ride in leicestershire for 2 newbies ..
my wife and i will be picking up 2 commencal disc bikes this weekend and we would
be gratefull if anyone can recommend the best place to start to really get us into the swing of things ....would you recomemend going on the skills courses at cannock ??
we are both completely new to biking although our general fitness is good and the
adrenaline rush which comes from MTB is very appealing although we are realistic to know it may take some time to get the confidence up .....
any recomendations would be great . we are based in Ibstock so any routes around
here would be great but would travel to a dedicatde course if it adds more excitement !

hi,
myself and my missus are located in rothley but regularly go cannock or sherwood if you would like some help pm me .our schedule is quite tight but i,m sure we can help you out0 -
My favourites in N Leics:
- Swithland Woods bridlepaths
- The loop around Beacon Hill, Woodhouse Eaves - this is purpose built for MTB and is a nice mix of gravel, single track, mud, even sand.
- The lap of Rutland Water is very easy if you are very new, but is also good fun, and has a decent pub for a stop and good car parks.
Once you have honed your skills there, try Cannock!0 -
I'm a Leicester lad transplanted to the North and I'd back up neil - Rutland Water for a nice leisurely 3 hours (tops) ride on a mixture of tarmac/hardpack/gravel and Woodhouse Eaves, both for really attractive rides with some very decent boozers in the vicinity. My fav pub on the Rutland Water route is on the peninsula that you can cut off to shorten the ride - makes the extra distance worthwhile.
Other than that, how about picking up a local Ordnance Survey Landranger and see if you can cobble together a loop on bridleways. Try and avoid contours that are close together at first!!! Or the routes section of this forum is bound to have something for you.
Derbyshire isn't too far from you either so if you're feeling confident.....0
