HI, new to all this, both the forum and MTB. Can anyone recommend places to ride in and around Durham? I currently go to Hamsterley Forest once every couple of weeks but it's an hour away and i have to find babysitting. It would be much easier if i could fins somewhere nearby that i could go through the week.

many thanks
:)

  • Hamsterley's good, depends where you live really!....You could do worse than this book MOUNTAIN BIKE GUIDE,COUNTY DURHAM,DEREK PURDY,P/B 1997 which I found on ebay for a quid! or even better is the book 'beyond Hamsterley - where to ride your mountain bike in and around County Durham (Loose Leaf in a handy folder with pull out routes) by Neil Gander. Some good routes near bear park, depending on your ability and where you live.
  • Why not ask the question here, I think there are some guys on from Darlington, Hartlepool, Durham way who may very well be able to help you out.

    Just click on the link..........

Im from peterlee mate, and often nip down to guisborough woods, Hamsterley, chopwell woods near stanley and for a bit further fun - kielder and now dalby. where abouts are ya?

some good flat railway routes around if thats your thing(haswell to hart railway, haswell to wynard park - nice cafe
  • FYI the Castle Eden walkway (haswell to wynyard park) is closed just north of the cafe for about a mile - there's no way round and it'll be closed for at least two months.
