Hi,
Im pretty new to buying a decent bike but have recently done some research on here and other sites.
Looking to spend less than £500 but want good value for money too
Pretty sure I have now narrowed it down to 2 options.
Claud Butler Cape wrath D27 2008 model. - 07 model got a good review on here and sounds excellent value for money. I can get it for an amazing £360 delivered!
GT Avalanche disc 1.0 2008 from the below site. I can get it for £440 and 12 months interest free too! This bike also gets a great review on here.

So please opinions and advice from people who know far more than me would be much appreciated before i take the plunge and spend the cash. I really dont know too much about the parts etc when it comes to which is better. So comparisons on the forks, brakes, gears etc would be great.
I plan to use it for casual road use, commuting and moderate xc.
Thanks in advance.

Having it delivered is one thing, but how do you try it for size? Will it be fully built and ready to go? Where do you get it serviced?
The bikes however are very good for the money, so i would try and see them on the shop floor.0 -
Thanks for the reply,
Unfortunately I have no chance of finding them to try, I live in north north scotland miles away from anywhere so I will be buying from online and trying to get as much info as possible before I do.
My mate has a old D24 cape wrath which i have tried and liked 20" frame which suited me (Im 6ft)
Please any info from anyone would be much appreciated beginning to think the D27 at £360 is a real bargain and maybe has the edge due to the £80 saving over the GT.0 -
If you are sure. The last 4 GTs I owned were 20.5, 17, 18 and 18 inch, sizes do vary year on year, model to model.
I think on paper the GT shades the spec. Proven frame, good fork, good brakes, great drivetrain and cranks, decent wheels - and an award winning machine. Csn be quite short in the geometry though for a given size.
If buying blind, I'd get the Gt no question. If you like the CB - get that.0 -
Hi Jamo,
I'm facing the same dilemma...
What did you get in the end?
I'm thinking of investing in a CB Cape Wrath D27 08... or a GT or a Cube or ...
Where did you find the CB at that price?
Cheers!
