Got my eye on the Boardman Team 09 @ £650. Main thing I like about is the frame tube shape & disc brakes. Wanted an 08 Pro but looks like non left, unless you know otherwise.

what else can I get in that price range?

Specialised Allez (sorry just woke up so dont know if I've spelt that right  ) it is drop bar but is dead cool, lots rate them. http://www.specialized.com/bc/SBCBkMode ... ez&eid=115

I like the Kona Jake I bought last year. No disc brake though, plus again it has drops. If you had your heart set on the boardman I guess you'd want flat bars.

That's ironic - I suggested you post here instead of in "Road" and someone recommends a drop bar road bike. actually I recently bought an Allez and love it.

what will you use the bike for? On/off road., occasional leisure, regular commuting, fitness? Why disk brakes?

For a versatile sporty bike a lot of people are going for the Specialized Tricross which would be about your budget - lots of threads on forum about this bike recently

travel to & from work, some leisure riding nd it'll get the old ticker going as I'm 50 and not done any exercise for years

Boardman because I like the frame tube shape

disc's because I like the look (ex motorcyclist to boot)

I'm now leaning towards the Pro version

not a bad hybrid, the brakes will be tad over kill, but on the other had the pads etc don't wear out as quickly as v brakes etc.

    The Boardman is nice.

If you are worried about the Hellfords association, or don't get on with SRAM, a mate of mine recently went through the same process as you (with the same desires) and ended up with the Felt flat bar with discs for that money - nice bike, if a little heavy (but then most hybrids are) - but it does seem bombproof.

A colleague of mine just changed bikes for his short (3 mile) commute - he's bought a Specialized Globe City 6.1 - it's perfect if you want to put practicality & comfort above speed . It comes with full mudguards, rack, stand, chainguard, in-hub dynamo, and maintainence free 8 speed hub gearing. The riding position is very upright (not quite sit up and beg) but it suits my colleague who's in his 50s and has been having some back troubles. He paid £370 new! - can't remember the name of hte shop but they're in Leeds

think I'm getting a Scott Sub 10 (with 26" wheels)

Did alot of looking and figured it gave me what I wanted

not actually sat on one yet and its £733 (from Evans)...but its not far away from the price of the pro Boardman
    FCN = 12 (er.......is that bad ?)

I've got a Specialized Sirrus Elite which I'm very happy with. Flat bar, relatively speedy hybrid, with eyes for a rack, mudguards etc should you wish them. No disc brakes but not sure they're of massive practical benefit unless it's for a MTB. There are various incarnations of the sirrus, for me the Elite has all I wanted and should come in a bit under your budget.

I like the visibility I get from the more upright position, it's very maneuverable and gives a smooth ride. No complaints at all for me so far.

I got the Boradman Pro for £675, it is a great ride but the brakes aren't all that as they stop great but make a hell of a noise!!

I've had no issues with Halfords and I would say the staff in the Bath Rd (Bristol) branch are spot on. But if I didn't have to go through Halfords I might have looked at other rides.
Life moves pretty fast, if you don't stop and look around you could miss it.

Not strictly a Hybrid but I just love the look of this:

No cheap forks, top end gears and brakes....If I didn't have my Felt I would probably use it for club runs
