OK there's been loads of wheel threads on here before but....

I'm a big bloke 6'4" and about 20 stone. I've popped the spokes on my Shimano RS10's and just noticed that I've cracked the rim on the Roval Echappee that my LBS have lent to me :?

So I need to get some decent strong wheels, hand builts would seem to be the way to go or alternatives would be ...

Go for handbuilts - Spa Cycles do strong builds (as they focus on touring) or contact Paul Hewitt or Harry Rowland for advice. They will be better than those factory ones you have identified.

I think handbuilts might suit you best.

I'm a bit lighter (15st) and have had no problems with Shimano R550 or the Mavic Ksyrium Elites. I use handbuilt 36 spoke at the rear for commutes and touring.

Fulcrum 5/7 and Campag Protons/Neutrons are also very strong.
