I cycle up there every morning (Castle way is a road that heads under the Asda overpass here in southampton's city cengter) but today I was a bit earlier due to setting off to walk through the ice in my local neighbourhood - these roads are never gritted especially this time of year
As I past the car park and came up towards the pedestrian crossing I could see a car parked on the pavement outside what I beleive is a disability shop of some kind, and a cycle leaning against the wall of the building. My first instinct was that the driver may have "off'd" the cyclist as she was standing talking to him with a lady next to her whilst the cyclist was using a mobile phone.
I couldnt see any damage, or that she was hurt.. or indeed any agression or agitation, but I do wonder if I should have stopped..? :?
Oh and my mate nearly got run over this afternoon. We were heading the same way up towards some lights after work... I was turning left and he was going straight on so remained behind me. I get about 50 feet up the road I'd turned into and hear him screaming blue bl**dy murder. I slow down, turn my head and see a car has lefthooked him and he's had to dive onto the pavement to get out of the way.
Knowning my mate is ok I set back off only to have said muppet overtake me with about 2 inches off my handlebar (I have narrow ones too, so that was close), then he cuts in and slows to stop for the lights. "Was it worth it?" I'm left thinking. I bent down to have a bit of a look and see this little old man in the drivers seat. I wonder if he knew where he was and what he was doing.
Oh and I left my camera gear in the bag today. Couldnt be bothered to set it up, and had I done so I might have caught about 8 or 9 muppets driving like loons around me.. Must be funny friday or something. And today was the first time in about a year that someone in a white van can driven too close. I frown at him through his mirror as he did it, only to see a police car RIGHT behind him. Good, I though, he'll pull him over and have a quiet word.. but no, they were too busy watching the young girls at the bus stop.
..and relaxxxxx.....
