That Happy Harry animation is seriously cheesy.

I've not read Watchmen, but I like Alan Moores stuff. From all the hype that I've seen it looks like it'll be a cracking film. So far, it's this years 'must watch' film. I'm really lookng forward to it.

  • if Alan's put his name to it then you know its gonna be good!

more so than can be said for that pile of c**p film version 'V for Vendetta'

    A) V was a good film. :? Its about people standing up for democracy and is pretty deep compared to other action flicks.

    B) Moore hates movie versions of his stories. Infact I seem to remember him saying he doesnt like reading his own stuff as he thinks its substandard

Watchmen will be cool. The book was amazing. read it late last year in about 4 days. Usually I cant stand comics but this was waaay darker. Its that, Ironman and Batman for me tbh.

Thought it was ok too, but V being some sort of hero for democracy was the complete opposite of the comics, anyone who read those first might be a little miffed how the film turned out.

To me what they are supposedly doing with Watchmen (havent seen it yet), and did with V was the same reinvention of the fairytale they did with Batman. So I'm cool with that, you expect interpretations with comics.

I've not read the V comic yet, but I'm told he's a total ****hole psychopath.

ISTR that he described Watchmen as unfilmable.

Dont be so precocious  Its a comic, and thats no disrespect. "Graphic novel" is just the embarrassed PC term invented to substantiate something that doesnt need substantiation.

I'm a bit dubious about the film myself..I've read Watchmen a few times and I've heard the film has mixed reviews.

Talking about it at work, it sounds as though the characters have been changed somewhat, given that they're more than a little flawed in the original story...be interested to hear if anyone goes. My other half is already refusing to go after how V for Vendetta turned out.

Personally I was disappointed with the film of V for Vendetta, I didn't like the changes made to the story which is a shame as I thought Hugh Jackman and Natalie Portman did a pretty good job.

    It was Hugo Weaving.

On the thought of Moores stuff being unfilmable, I'd like to see them try to make a movie of DR and Quinch, which he wrote with Alan Davies, just to hear a cinemafull of fans shouting out, "Mind the Oranges Marlon.". That would be funny. :D

One of my early Girlfriends (late 80's) got me into Comics, She collected them and I thought they were all about men who fly and wear their underpants on the outside of their trousers. She insisted I read her "V" collection (individual comics, the proper way) and her Hellblazer. I was hooked and started my own collection which has all 12 watchmen in it 8) The first 100 odd Sandman (Neil Gaiman, almost as great as Moore) inc all the mini series and most of Batman LOTDK, World without End (Jamie Delano, not as good as Hellblazer) and stacks of others. All in 2 boxes at home untouched in 10+ years. I was quite miffed when I saw that Watchmen was being made into a Film.

Saw the film and I've got to say I was impressed the ending is different from the book but it still works well as it could

That's good to know, CP. I've just arranged to go and see it with a mate - end of the month unfortunately.

A bit difficult to follow with the way it jumps about, but I'll definitely be watching again. Superhero / comic films have really come a long way in recent years.

I've seen it twice. It's fantastic. Obviously quite a lot is missed out from the book, a few things aren't explained fully, but it works quite nicely. It's definitely one of the best comic book adaptations I've seen.

Yeah, there're a few things that I'd like explained, but that's a good thing IMO. I hate it when fairly obvious things are explained to the viewer as though they're an idiot. I was a bit puzzled by Rorschach's mask until the ink-blot test; it was well handled without spelling it out.

I think I'll be buying the graphic novel before watching again (probably the director's cut that I hear'll be coming out).

Not saying much though is it. I was left feeling a bit cold - the film was well put together, beautifully shot and very well acted, but I found it a little lifeless if I'm honest. I wonder what people not familiar with the comics will make of it. Perhaps my expectations were too high.

Disappointed overall. Technically competent, lacking emotion.

I have never read the comic and i thought the film was terrible, VERY boring. The wife kept asking if we could leave but i kept thinking it must get better/good soon....that never happened

    Philistine! :D

There are some very worthwhile and current themes explored in the film, and you'll be rewarded if you can be bothered to think. The danger is that people unfamiliar with the material will go expecting a standard comic book movie - a la Spiderman, Superman etc. The Watchmen is not your run of the mill comic and as a film it demands a certain level of engagement from the viewer. It's not a popcorn Blockbuster, more a film in vein of There Will Be Blood or No Country For Old Men.
