Would like some recommendations for padded shorts.

I'm not in the Assos price range so please don't say them, but would like something that would last a couple of years or so.

Do they all have the Coolmax padded inserts?

    What's your budget?

Start at the likes of DHB or Lusso and work upwards. Price generally gets you better quality materials, a better seatpad and multi-panel construction.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

Didn't want to spend much more than £40 or £50 to be honest. I see Wiggle have some DHB Bib shorts for about £35 which seem to be recommended.

You could try the Giordana Silverline bibshorts. They are on Parker International for £42.

I rode 60 hilly miles in a pair at the weekend, and they were very comfy.

The DHB's are good value. Got a pair of 3/4's that are comfy, so guess the standard ones are as good.

I have a pair of the Wiggle DHB Earnley shorts and Merston 3/4s they're both very good for the money. Also have a pair of the Lusso gel shorts, very good too. They feel a bit more substantial than the DHB Earnleys, but then to me the Earnleys feel almost "second-skin" once on - lightweight fabric that fits well.

I paid less than £40 for each.

Hi there, Cyclesurgery had a sale on and were reducing Sugoi shorts - (£40 for Flex) the comfiest I've found for my bony ass, and very light against the skin.

agreed. you should be able to pick up a pair of FS260 pro bibs for between £50-60 and they are excellent shorts..

I'm with you GemmaAtkinson, I've got about 8 pairs of longs and shorts and the Santini are a country mile ahead in terms of quality and comfort - someone commented that you cannot tell you've a pair of shorts on...it's true and a litlle disconcerting at times!!

Sorry to hijack, but can someone please tell me what the advantage in wearing bib shorts as opposed to 'normal' shorts? I'm in the market for a newer, comfier pair for those longer rides and just can't for the life of me work out what the advantage is. What am I missing please?

comfort, snugger fit, reduce movement of shorts around sensitive areas, secure your crown jewels, some have ipod pockets, more choice of colours, soak sweat away, warmer in winter if you get right type, compress torso a little, do not have to adjust them at all.

Bought some Gore BikeWear Contest Shorts last year for £35 from Wiggle - very good and big improvement over the DHB used previously.

I've recently bought some DHB Finchdean shorts for £60 (ish). Pretty darned comfortable on the long rides thanks to their gel padding. They also got 10/10 in a Road Cycling UK review.

I quite like the look of the Gore range although only 4 panels on their top range bibs. I would have thought that a pair of £139 bib would have had 6 or more panels.
