So everyone, what is the nicest bike/frame you've ever seen. I watched the tour go past when it was in london a couple of years ago, there were some fairly nice ones there obv. but today I was utterly blown away.

I was shown (and allowed to hold 8) ) a lynskey helix in the mirror finish... Utterly blew me away, without a doubt the most gorgeous bike i've ever seen or laid hands on...

So how about you?

that is pretty gorgeous, the thing that i really liked about the linskey

was that some guy in tennessee spent two whole days of his life polishing it...

I do really like the Orca, Orca Evolution and the '09 Ridley Noah. The Wilier Cento, Cento Uno and the Pinarello Prince are fine looking bikes too. I don't think my Izoard is too shabby looking either.

I can also appreciate the aestethics of older bikes. Ever since I can remember I've liked the look of my dad's old Flying Scot.

I don't want to come across as some sort of miserable old git who resents progress (I'm not that old and I'm all for progress), but I'm not particularly convinced that the current crop of 'must have' desirable bikes will stand the test of time.

The swoops and curves that manufacturers seem to apply to the majority of carbon bikes (which for the most part I think has as much to do with making the bike look individual and therefore more marketable as it does performance) will look a bit silly and 'desperate' in a few years time I feel.

Something much more 'classic' in appearance, albeit with a twist like the Lynskey mentioned above, wins every time for me.

it is a shame to see the 'SCOT' looking neglected and unloved. Looks like a mid to latish 70s model to me?

I still think the Bianchi Pista would hold its own on any bicycle catwalk.

I have to agree that all this wiggley swoopy stuff really doesn't "do it" for me either. Nothing beats a simple elegant classic Italian design...like this one!

Of course, the fact that it's mine doesn't sway the argument one tiny bit

I have always liked plain bikes in the past, stealthy machines, my current ride is a principia RexE pro with everything black, I even had my DA cranks anodised black as they were to silver.....

But there is something so right about the new Felt range

Unlike yourself I probably AM a miserable old git but I tend to agree with you on all this swoopy, curvy, stuff looking a bit "desperate"(well put). The best looking frame / bike I have seen recently was a really, really, really red Cinelli with chromed lugs and fork.
So call me old and in the way but that's the way I see it.

But then i do love carbon stuff  8)

Is it wrong to find that bike absolutely disgusting?

Half of these TT bikes full carbon like that I don't like the look of.

I don't think so. From my perspective all it looks like is a giant billboard. Nothing that appeals to me.
Remember though that I'm old and in the way.

Willhub is right that bike is rubbish - a P3C is much more aerodynamic and much better looking.

I don't like that Serotta. Looks like it was designed by a 10 year old. Also agree that all the wobbly stuff isn't going to age that well.

There was someone selling a Tommasini in here a while ago which was just about my idea of a perfect looking bike:

Though the red tyres are a bit overkill, I would of gone with black. All carbon with logos everywhere doesn't really float my boat.

would like to see one of those lynskey helix thingys for real, could never justify spending that amount though.

I do like the new felt Ar range.

but as for that serotta - i'd rather have my 10 year old tt bike anyday

  • Dude that#s a stunning TT bike.

My ride is a silver aluminium airborne with red tires. My ideal frame is a titanium lightspeed, or Seven. That Linky bike is the best I've seen though. I aint a fan of the carbon look.

    Titanium or steel for me.

    ta, pretty aint she

It's 853 tubing handmade by Dave Lloyd. Still going strong. wont be replacing it until she breaks which will hopefully be many years away. 8 speed, non indexed gears, pretty old school really

Was saving for an enigma or sunday but got sucked into the planet x deal last year. Very pleased with that bike though which is the bike i ride 95% of the time. Going to start saving for a Ti again, maybe when im 40.

these super compact frames look awful to me, like old girls bikes! That cannondale is much more like it.

Is that an Iscaselle pluma saddle with the titanium sheet [alloyed with like 2.5% tin btw]???
I haven't seen one of those for over 10 years. Rare as hens teeth!

I have promised myself one of these when i have shifted enough weight!

They have one in my LBS. What do you think the max rider weight is for a bike like this?

    Cheers
