have repaired my first puncture today. i am fairly new and do mostly offroad riding, what should the psi be when i reinflate.

i keep pumping the tyre up but since the repair the front tyre seems spongy compared to what it was.

also, how many times should i repair a puncture before i swap innertubes.

thanks

Are you using a mini pump? For higher pressure use track pump, if you have.
But are you sure that you sealed the puncture completly?
Have you checked for other punctures?
Did you remove the thorn(if it was coused by that) from the tire?

And in my opinion replace inner tubes whenever you want.
The more rubber you add to the tube, the more puncture resistant it's in that place. :D
  • Often a thorn can go through both sides of the tube - the bigger hole will be where the tube was on the outside (against the tyre) but it could have gone right through and put a smaller hole on the other side of the tube.

If in doubt bin it - they're not a fortune.

I'd say, depending on your body weight, you should run MTB tyres at between 35 and 40psi for standard XC/trail riding. This will give you a good blend of grip and comfort whilst having enough pressure to protect your tubes a bit against pinch punctures and thorns etc.

Any more than 40psi and they're probably more suited to road-work.
