Buying a new steel frame and want to know of anything else that provides durable rust protection so I don't have to apply it more often than every couple of years.

Framesaver is probably a repackaged product anyway, just like all the 'cycling' lubes and greases. I've read that it's Shell Ensis.

I suppose any anti-rust treatment product you can get in eg a car accessory shop will do a similar job. In the UK, Waxoyl seems to be most common.

Really! I don't think so. That may be the case with some manufacturers but not all. Otherwise they would not be granted patents for a borrowed or copied solution. I am sure some are but to say ALL are is a sweeping generalization.

I've been wondering if its the same stuff as some spray I got with my new car battery to protect against corrosion at the terminals.
