Cycling shoes

Im thinking about getting some cycling shoes but im not sure i could have my feet stuck in one position on the pedals. When i was out today doing 20miles i tried my best to just keep my feet in the same place on the pedals and i have to say i found it a bit uncomfortable and i just wanted to keep moving them slightly. Now would having to keep my feet in the same position be something i would get used to. Im pretty sure i probably dont move my feet around that much and it was more like i was concious of the fact i was trying not to move them.

The cycling shoes have a metal sole, meaning that the pressure exerted on the pedal is more evenly spread over the foot, and so it is much more comfy (and efficient) than soft soled shoes like trainers.
Its also quite confidence inspiring having your feet in a position you are familiar with, after you have ridden with them for a few weeks. I switched to SPD's 3 years ago, im not looking back.0 -
i switched to spd's last year after many years of flatties, having had to ride the wife's bike to get some spares for mine and found it really tricky with floppy feet as such from spd's! very odd!
spd's do make a big difference in pedeling efficiency though and proper stiff soled shoes make a lot of difference too! i started out using cannondale shoes which were amazingly comfy compared to trainers, they lasted me a good 4 years and are currently nt he shed in retirement as i stepped up to shimano experty style shoes and the difference was incredible!
even if your not going for the full spd's i'd say look at some proper cycling shoes, comfort wise they make a lot of difference.Timmo.
