Hi, I'm looking at taking my bike (road bike, Bianchi 1885) overseas with me and would like to know which would be the better purchase?

    Pros & Cons:
Case Pros: prevents crush/point damage e.g. carbon /alloy frames
Case Cons: More expensive; heavy: excess baggage fees & when it get drops it can break; storage; not all as strong as you'd think
Bag Pros: cheaper, lightweight, easier to carry; less excess baggage fees; unlikely to get trashed by baggage handlers; easier to store
Bag Cons: poor crush/point damage protection

A bag is fine for the likes of cars/trains/Eurostar but less so for flying. Baggage handlers are more inclined to handle a lightweight bike bag carefully whereas a heavy bike case does get the worst level of abuse - any bike in a case is unlikely to survive a long drop onto tarmac - it happens. I've got a Ritchey Breakaway - no more excess baggage fees and steel frame can take a few knocks. If travelling frequently, consider a titanium frame.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

What's the common opinion regarding EVA bike pods?

I see that Wiggle have started selling one now, a bit cheaper than the Polaris.

Best or worst of both worlds?
