MTB or cycle groups Solihull / West Midlands / Warwickshire
Is anybody aware of any mountain biking or cycling groups in and around Solihull area that meet on a regaular basis? I am not into extreme cross country mountain biking , nor speed/road riding....somewhere in between as in some off road trails, canal paths, country lanes etc. I know there are a couple of clubs around north birmingham and another in coventry but looking for something a little closer to home. Nothing too formal, just some likeminded people to get me motivated to get out on my bike on a regular basis. If there isn't anything in existence are there people out there that would be interested in starting semething up around the area?

Hi Rich,
Check us out, might be a bit more local for you...
midland-mountainbikers.co.ukHi all, new to the forum, I live in Stockton (Warwickshire) and even though I have a few riding buddies I am always looking for other people to go out riding with or even talking " nuts & bolts" guys or girls!!!...0 -
Hi Rich, I have just moved into the Shirley area and am looking for MTB rides and inspiration like yourself. Recently got my bike down here after 9 months in storeage and am looking to blow away the cobwebs. Let me know if you want to sort a ride out. Cheers Mick0

I've pm'd Brum Rich last week about whether he found anywhere in the area (I think he is from around Dickens Heath way). Maybe it would be worth Pm'ing him as well.
Perhaps we could all organise a ride somewhere. I think there are more people who live around here as well. I'm 24 and have just moved to the area last September and bought a bike a couple of weekends ago hoping to recapture the bug I had in my youth!"One thing that is worse than Carlton Kirby: people complaining about Carlton Kirby.
Talk about first world problems."

Hi all i've been looking for a few rides in the area too. I've been out exploing near me quite a bit recently. Found a few nice routes around lapworth/rowington and getting out towards kenilworth and warwick. I've been trying to avoid towpaths after getting 4 separate punctures last time i went on one. I'd be up for some company sometime i'm sure.
There was a group from leamington area looking for rides maybe could organise something with all of them

Multimap has been quite useful for finding bridleways and unclassified county roads, when you zoom in close enough there is an os-map option:

I'm not aware of any local MTB clubs.0 -

There are quite a few in the Solihull Cycling Club who mix both road and MTB riding. If you are interested in getting a reasonable level of interest so that there could be a regular group ride then would definitely recommend posting a similar note to the club website.

There are also several from the Solihull area who post onto the Midlands MTB forum as well.

Hi
You responded to a post of mine a few months ago regarding possible interest in getting together for MTB rides close to Solihull. I have had quite a few contacts over the months so was thinking of getting a group together for some rides in the new year. If you are still interested send me your email and I'll send something out to everybody that has expressed an interest and we can take it from there.
Cheers

Me too, I'm in Solihull, in between the town centre and the Stratford Road. Generally ride over on Blythe Valley, Dickens Heath, over the motorway bridge in Monkspath, and sometimes head out down the towpath through Lapworth and Rowington.
I'm off work until the 4th, and might be going on the Long Mynd ride mentioned in the Rides section. Would be good to get some local guys going too.
Edit: that sounds a bit suspicious, I don't want to "get guys going", but you know what I mean!0 -
I'm a bit late on this topic - but hope you're all still out there...
I live in Tanworth in Arden, and am keen to get out on my bike much more. I try and have a ride at least once a week - and usually only manage a quick hour round the Lickeys.
Would like to do more - so if there are any out there up for it, drop me a line.
I have a great guide book of rides in the Cotswolds - which is only 45 mins away... but am happy to go further afield. I am also happy to do night rides, as I have a decent set of lights.0 -
I'm coleshill way and would happily tag along behind anyone. If people have not done it Malvern is a good little ride, and long Mynd is cracking in the right weather. But tend to do Cannock lots as its closest.
If there is a group emerging would defo be interested.0 -
done-will keep an eye on what is going on.
cheers0 -
Would also be interested as am Redditch based, ride with a few guys that are Redditch/Bromsgrove based so could easily get together. Have got a route that starts at Lowsonford that is ok in the dry / frozen. Many of the bridleways round here are unrideable in the wet due to clay content of soil

Hey, im from solihull but its not very mtb friendly!
The only legal place are the towpaths, fine for blasting along but nothing challenging. A local spot is Clowes wood in earlswood (not legal though!) which has a few very small runs.
In reality its worth driving up to cannock as it miles better than the lickeys!
Give me a shout if you wanna get some riding in!

Does anyone do local road rides on their mtb to keep fit and want company?
I have two routes I do at the moment, 20 miles and 30 miles around barston/Knowle/Balsall common area.0 -
Just checked the midland riders website and its been taken down now is the club still going?
I end up going to Cannock chase to do the single tracks there. I'd definitely be up for a local ride if there's anyone with some good routes0
