Has anybody done either of these races?

I'm thinking of venturing into the world of road racing and don't want a scary scary first experience if I can help it! If anybody has entered these events and can pass on any tips or advice that would be great. Does anybody know what the normal size of the field would be?

If anybody has done the Bryn Bach circuit do they remember seeing any women racing, it would be nice to ride against some women rather than men!

Thanks!

The chard race is on Ilton (Merryfield airfield) which I've ridden loads of times. Big wide airfield with plenty of room. Usually a few women riding.
No tight corners, slight drag on one section but very very minor. Good place to start racing and learning the art of holding wheels.
  • Thanks for the reply!

I think I am going to give the Ilton Circuit a go this weekend, just hope enough women enter to warrant a women's only race. I quite like hills so a hillier course would probably suit me better, but I'm not sure I'd be keeping up on the down hill bits, so a nice wide flat course is probably a better option for my first race :) Just hope I don't fall off and break anything (either bones or bike!).
  • Yes, as was said above, the race at ilton would be a good way to start road racing, it does have a reputation for crashes though, possibly because lots of beginners see it as an easy race to start on?

Well good luck Becky. Look out for my team mates in the Team Tor jerseys - Georgie Wainwright in our team is a great female rider (long ginger hair) and very friendly so talk to her and follow her wheel as a good one.
  • Thanks for all the advice! I'll let you know how it goes  :)

Look forward to seeing you at ilton on sat. I'm from tor2000 aswell. George will look after you well but she does tend to talk a lot. :P
