Saddles and sore bum!

Hello :D

I havn't ridden my bike in a few months and my OH and myself hit Dartmoor at the weekend.... Ouch. The first day was bad enough, but the on second day my 'bones that you sit on' (no other way to describe them!) were so painful that I was almost in tears :(

It wasn't that anything else was getting mashed - it was literally just the bones that hurt so much.

I've never had this before, and have ridden further and more technical stuff. Do I need to invest in a new saddle, or just spend more time on the bike?!

Thanks!

Sounds like your backside has just forgotten what it was like! If your saddle was OK before it should still be now.

Thanks! Yep, what I thought then.... :?

Flipping painful though (maybe the 25 miles off-road on the first day wasn't such a good plan  )!

If you haven't been up to any extra curricular activity that I couldn't possibly mention on such a classy forum, then yes, I would probably invest in a new saddle. The gel has probably popped or worn out.
A lady specific saddle may be appropriate or if you are of the larger species then a Horse saddle may be more comfy !!

Pain is temporary. It may last a minute, or an hour, or a day, or a year, but eventually it will subside and something else will take its place. If I quit, however, it lasts forever.

    Ha ha

I am already using a ladies specific one, which i've only had a couple of years so I can't imagine that the gel would have gone yet? And my bum is the right size for it so no worries there :D:D

Mine's got a whole in the middle of it...............suits my requirements. No sore/numb bits!
  • Try a pair of sorts with padding, I pretty much done the same thing - not rode for a few months and my rear end was in agony after a few days riding, bought some new shorts with padding as never had them before and they were cheap and they definately add a extra layer of quilted softness

    Yep - I always do - I wouldn't ride without them!!

Fortunately it seems to have sorted itself out... Have just come back from a weekend riding in Wales and I can confirm that my bum is fine

I guess it was just lack of mtbing last time - the moral being that I should ride more!!!

Think photo of your bum (in lycra of course) is required so I can make a proper assesment of your saddle requirements.
