Riding home last night, I was going quiet fast along south lambeth rd and I just got up out of the saddle to make sure i didnt miss the lights and suddenly heard a loud bang and the saddle went flying, I nearly fell off, I ride a Pearson Touche as a fixed wheel so had to keep pedling and standing up till i could stop. Bloody dangerous situation.

The bolt that clamps the seat to the post had snapped in half. Lost half the parts so need a new post, Was a cheap Kalloy post that came with the bike, i want a better made post as dont want that happening again.
Like carbon post but have heard that they can snap in half (the cheap ones)

Looking for a strong and light replacement post (27.2mm) 300 lenght, Also something that look good...

Chain reactions have some good deals

07 Ritchey WCS V2 Seatpost £36

or Easton EA70 Seatpost - Road 2005 £34

What do you guys recommend up to about £50

I dunno, but I specced my Touche with a Pearson branded carbon seatpost and have been very happy with it. Ritchey kit can normally be relied upon.

I'd call Pearson if I were you, how old was the post?

I have tried a few carbon posts and they tend to get scratched and then worry me after a while, now all my bikes have Thomson posts on them.

  • My bike/post is about 2 years old. Used every day as well.

I stopped in at Brixton cycles on the way home after the incident and the bloke said he has seen it before, Bolt can be too loose or too tight and can cause the bolt to facture.
They where a bit expensive Brixton cycles so did buy anything, They where very helpful though.

My bolt could have been too tight maybe...

  • Popped into Condor at lunch time and they had a 'condor' branded carbon seat post for £29.00, Sales guy said they use em on all there bikes and had no problems. Looks good, lets hope it strong..

    Anyone use em?

I would go for Ritchey personally - ALl my Ritchey gear has lasted forever under extreme abuse. In fact I have a spare 27.2 seatpost in my shed Ritchey Pro! £10, it's yours! I don't think it is 300mm though - more like 250mm.

I second Reddraggon, got a Thompson one for a Trek MTB and it has been great. Very light (much lighter and yet longer than the original bonty) and yet very strong and well made.
