Wider fitting cycling shoes?

Can anyone advise me on what brands of cycling shoe are the widest fit, and indeed if - as with running shoes - any supply a wide fitting?
I have fairly wide feet (due in part perhaps to the amount of weight transmitted through them) and currently use Specialized BG Sport shoes the size of which are the right length, but they pinch my toes together too much contributing to numbness in my forefoot after a while. I had heard Spz BG is quite a generous fit - in which case I may be in trouble!

I have broad feet and have no problems with the following:
Lake (toring shoes)
Diadora Proracer (roadie shoes)
Lidl (SPD commuter shoes)
The latter are still in store at under £20 a pair.0 -
Try the Sidi MEGA range. They are specifically designed for wider feet. I had a pair of Pearl Izumi's which used to really hurt after an hour or so. Changed to the Sidi Megas and have had no problems since. The only downside is that they tend to come in only black or grey or silver. Sidi don't seem to think they're MEGA customers want bling shoes.l0

I think Northwave shoes are wider.0

I have 2 pairs of Northwave and they are wider. I got rid of my Sidi's after buying themhttp://twitter.com/mgalex

Wider than Sidi mega or Sidi normal?0 -
In general, American shoes tend to be wider fitting than European. I have wide feet and find that Specialized are a good fit for me.0

in your case, definitely try before you buy, if you explain to the bike shop i'm sure they'll let you sit in them for 30mins to see if your toes go numb0

I'm not sure about the Sidi Mega. I haven't used them. I have a pair of MTB and road. both straps not ratchet. I wouldn't buy anything else now.http://twitter.com/mgalex

I have exactly the same problem, have been using the Specialized shoes and do OK up to a point. Recently someone game me a set of Shimano shoes as they didn't get on with the clipless idea, I took them out of politeness figureing I could sell them on at worst but actually the fit is very good for me so they might be worth a look for you too.0

I'm 13EEE, i found a nice wide fit on these shoes:

$99
they are excellent, and 1/3 the cost of name brand shoes that are likely made in the same factory0 -
Thank you for the advice so far. Looks like I'm going to have to start trying some shoes on - next problem will no doubt be finding any local shops that stock Sidi and Northwave, and not just Shimano and Specialized. The Sette's look good on the website but don't appear to be readily available in the UK.
It still seems a bit bizarre to me that manufacturers do not offer a 'wide fit' size - even if only factory orderable. OK, one's feet don't take the punishment cycling that they would running, but then again one is still transfering power through the shoe for a number of hours at a time. Comfort is important!0 -
I had the same issue - with specialised BG shoes - these are deceptivley narrow . I switched to Northwave vertigo - and felt the difference straight away - a few weeks back cyclesurgey were doing these for £55 - as oppossed to the £80 rrp.
Sidi Mega I found very hard to find a stockist - who had a stock (IE so I could try before I buy) - and they were close on £200 ! - Don't just order a cycling shoes in the size of your normal footwear - you really need to try them on.0 -
My feet are pretty wide, Northwave for meJens says "Shut up legs !! "

Thanks Y'all. I'm opting for the Northwave Vertigo. I'll have to buy online as nowhere in Ipswich sells them - if they don't fit I'll send them back.
One final question (please) - is there a particular advantage to the Vertigo S.B.S over the normal Vertigo (read: is it worth an extra £10)?0 -
SBS has a "step by step" top fastener on the top strap, the standard Vertigo has velcro straps on all three points. i`ve got the standard Vertigo, fastening is fine, strong closure and never comes loose.Jens says "Shut up legs !! "
