Eat Tarmac!!

Over two and half years after I came back to cycling from a 20 yr absence I finally fell off this morning. Just started my commute to work when I came to turn right at the mini roundabout. Having that final check to ensure that there really was nothing coming from the left and a second later I'm scraping along the tarmac. Have a lovely tennis-ball-sized lack of skin on my thigh to remember it by!!!

I guess the reasons are (a) that I'm on slicks already (b) although no frost there was some condensation around (e.g. car windscreens) and probably most importantly (c) I guess I must have touched that lump of round white paint that is the mini roundabout.

So, my lovely handelbar tape, Shimano spd pedals and my super shiny Ultegra brake levers are all scratched to f**k - just like my thigh.

not a chance it's going to spoil anything though - riding's ACE :D:D:D

You did well to go 2.5 years before falling off ... I started commuting a few weeks ago and hit the deck on my commute home the very first day  !! Put the power down too early on an unexpectedly greasy 90 degree corner and the first I knew of it my hip was scraping along the road surface!

Didn't put me off in the slightest :D ... but I AM very wary of that particular corner now!

The last time I fell off was when I thought I could walk my bike over some ice. Cue much skidding and injured pride.

There was the time when I first tried to stop with toe-clips and fell over onto my side in front of my mates. They were too busy laughing to help me (gits).
