road fork recommendation

The carbon steerer on my current forks has a tiny crack at the top. It seems stable, but I can't seem to forget it so I would like to replace the forks . Does anyone have any recommendations? I was thinking of going for an alloy or steel steerer.
Apart from the small weight differences, will I notice much differences?
Has anyone seen any good deals recently (1 1/8)?

cheers

I had a similar thing happen to me last year. I found that the market is made up of budget forks below £100 or £200 upwards for more exotic models.

I got some Kinesis Tracer (all carbon) ones in the end, which I am really pleased with. They are around the £200 mark.

Cracking fork steerers is 9/10 due to poor assembly or using the wrong type of fork bung
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..
