Now a little modified to this:

    2 inner tubes,
    Crank Brothers Power Pump Pro,
2 TB-1 Park Tools Emergency Tyre Boot Patch,
    3 Sram powerlinks,
Park Tool Rescue Tool MTB 3,
    5 ball end allen keys,
    8mm spanner,
    spare rear mech hanger,
    puncture repair kit,
    very small needle nose pliers,
really small set of pipe grips,
about 5 metres of gaffer tape,
    assorted cable ties,
    3 pairs of nitrile gloves,
    3 park tool tyre levers,
    spare set of brake pads,
    65 quid cash,
    1.8m cable lock,
    phone.
    70cl of Bushmills Original

    :?

Where are you riding, the moon? Why would you need all that gear unless you're doing 100 mile trips into the middle of nowhere

    Me

    1 Inner tube
    Puncture repair kit
    1 multi tool
    Couple of quid
    Mobile phone

Obviously the last items a joke,
however this in total weighs very little on top of the pump, tubes & multi tool that everyone should have and fits well in my 'Drank Hydrapak'
We go out riding every week and cover on an average morning 40 miles. Why not be prepared to continue our ride?
Also me and my mate just went half's on a box of 50 inner tubes (at a decent price from our LBS) as every week we have a least one punture each !

On a decent ride around 20-30 miles i'll usually have:

    water (in hydration pack)
    couple of choc/cereal bars
    chewing gum
    pump
    spare tube
puncture kit (although just bought these to use instead of all the faffing about with glue and chalk, http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_205781_langId_-1_categoryId_165485
Lights + spare batts (if not been changed in a while)
    high vis over jacket thing
    multitool
    lock
    hat
    cash
    phone

And then just a few of these thing if on a short ride.
